Pedestrian killed by suspect in Los Angeles police chase

LOS ANGELES, CA – A police chase in Los Angeles ended tragically on Wednesday after the driver of a stolen vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian.

According to CBS News, officers attempted to stop a woman in a stolen 1987 Toyota Avalon on southbound Central Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

After a short chase, police backed off and planned to follow the suspect via helicopter. As the suspect approached the intersection of Central Avenue and 71st Street, she struck a man in his twenties attempting to cross the street. He was thrown more than 20 yards and died at the scene.

The driver was injured and taken to the hospital, where she was then placed under arrest.
